1.Cervarix  Vaccine-

  • Bivalent HPV  vaccine gives protection against HPV 16,18  virus
  • 98% protection against CIN 2+ (cervical intraepithelial neoplasia)
  • 10 to 45 yrs
  • Dose-0, 1 , 6 months
  • Pure cervical cancer vaccine

2.  Gardasil  Vaccine -

  • Quadrivalent   HPV vaccine gives protection against HPV   16,18, 6, 11 virus
  • 6 ,11 non oncogenic
  • 98% protection against CIN 2+(cervical intraepithelial neoplasia) & ( 100% against VAIN,(vaginal intraepithelial lesion ) VIN, ( vulval intraepithelial neoplasia) genital warts
  • 9 to 45 years
  • Dose-0,2, 6 ,months
  • Dual cervical cancer and genital warts vaccine

Q 2    What are the recommendations and whom should be given HPV vaccination ?

  • Routine vaccination-10-12 years females, minimum age of vaccination is : 9 years may be offered upto 45 years
  • No evidence to support use of booster
  • Can be given in women previously exposed or treated- protects against other genotypes
  • Routine screening to be done post-vaccination
  • No recommendation for HPV testing prior to immunisation
  • Contraindicated-pregnancy; safe in lactation
