The Two-electrode profile does not give very useful results as the coal seams appear as resistivity lows rather than highs.A number of vertical electrical soundings were also carried out over the coal seams along two profiles. During the pyrolysis process at temperatures greater than approximately 650 °C, coal became a good conductor with a resistivity of approximately 1Ω m. Duba (1977) also described the changes in electrical resistivity of coal samples and their pyrolysis products observed in … the normal esp operating temperature of around 150°C is typically near the maximum resistivity of the ash. All the coal seams are characterised by high values of resistivity (up to 1140 Ohm-m) with respect to the background resistivity of the Barakar Formation, which is about 300 Ohm-m. The research results shown that coal resistivity in Line is about 70–200 Ωm, Line 2 is about 70–90 Ωm, and Line 3 is about 70–200 Ωm with average thickness … 2 3 4 "Electrical Resistivity of Fly Ash" was chosen as the subject of this paper because it provides a good illustra-tion of the advances which have been achieved in recent years through the application of fundamental research to these problems. The electrical resistivity of the coal as a function of moisture, applied voltage and temperature was examined, using the standard ASTM (D257-78) method13. Furthermore, the fundamental cause of anisotropy of coal resistivity is expounded systematically. Abstract.

The response of several closely spaced coal seams located in the northeastern part of the Jharia Coalfield, and occurring within the Barakar Formation (of Gondwana age) has been studied using electrical resistivity methods employing Wenner, Two-electrode and Half-Schlumberger configurations. To study the influence of gas adsorption-desorption on the resistivity of coal, the resistivity changes in conditions of continuous adsorption/desorption and isovolumetric adsorption/desorption were tested by high-precision resistance measurement, and the relationship between coal resistivity and gas content was investigated. The results obtained have been compared with those of Lisichansk hard coal (USSR) and Illinois basin bituminous coal (USA).We use cookies to help provide and enhance our service and tailor content and ads. The results show that the resistivity of loaded coal decreased first before increasing. The profile using the Half-Schlumberger configuration shows sharp discontinuities on account of the presence of coal seams as compared to the Wenner profile.

All the coal seams are characterised by high values of resistivity (up to 1140 Ohm-m) with respect to the background resistivity of the Barakar Formation, which is about 300 Ohm-m. The distribution of pore and fracture structures is anisotropic. the resistivity of fly ash after coal-fired boilers varies with the flue gas temperature. The electrical resistivity of the oil shales, lignite, and coal is compared, as a function of the temperature. Circular discs 5mm thick were cut from the cylinders. Electrical restivity measurements of samples of an Indian bituminous coal have been carried out as a function of moisture, applied voltage and temperature, using the standard ASTM (D257-78) methods. Similar behavior was observed both in continuous adsorption/desorption and in isovolumetric a… for low sulphur coals the resistivity will sharply decrease if the flue gas temperature at the esp inlet is reduced to about 100°C or less. grade coals, has required the solution of many difficult problems. The ionic conductance and the high degree of metamorphism slow down the decrease of resistivity.

The coal seams can be well picked up using this method. We use cookies to help provide and enhance our service and tailor content and ads.

For the measurements, cylindrical cores of diameter 35 mm and length up to 100mm were drilled out from the coal samples.
