Working problems with algebraic entry was slower and more error prone than RPN. One awesome thing about HP 35S is that it is available at such an affordable and budget-friendly price. When I was in college, I made the switch to HP and RPN (grudgingly, at first) because I was at a disadvantage compared to my fellow students when I had no HP programmable. Plus, it had a memory to store intermediate or constant values.True to its name, it had 35 keys and a power switch. Had to pull batteries and then reset to recover.

That being said, users of the HP 35s scientific calculator appreciate the classic look and feel that this unit provides. It does everything I'd want to do on a calculator that's short of what I'd want to model on a full computer system.I hope HP looks to this design and their other past designs when designing new high end calculators. While some early calculators called themselves a "scientific" model with nothing more than the basic four functions and a square root key, the HP-35 had far more. Likewise, over the past several years I have been looking for a calculator to replace or supplement my HP-41 calculators. And it doesn't even come with batteries! Both inside and outside, it's a solid tool. Getting themselves into the textbooks and in the hands of technical students comes next.
Realistically, though, this A more apt comparison would be the recent HP-30 and HP-33 models. Instead of being targeted at students, this calculator has been crafted with the working professional in mind. The caveat is that I am not steeped in the HP calculator tradition and only used their RPN calculators sparingly. Amazon calculates a product’s star ratings based on a machine learned model instead of a raw data average. I have used HP RPN calculators since the first ones over 45 years ago. Most of its 43 keys serve four functions. The HP 35s scientific programmable calculator delivers them—and more—with features that include 30KB user memory, your choice of RPN and algebraic entry-system logic, a convenient two-line display, and the time-saving HP Solve application.

I can remember 2.54, not so much the other. It is a disgrace. Another HP-41 costs plenty these days, considerably more than a new high end calculator with supposedly better features. I just love RPN, it SO superior to using algebraic calculation. They need to get their products back into education. Others -- particularly scientists and engineers -- may have legitimate complaints about this unit.I have now been forced to buy 3 of these things (HP35s). I have been using HP calculators since the HP35 and HP45 came out in the early 1970s.

However, HP has introduced a new weapon. Two features I learned to love when programming the 35s: Vector type and equations. Compared to my old 15C (display finally died after 20 years of brutal laboratory use and many falls) this has been a huge disappointment. Vector type The vector type has been critizised for missing key features: Some net research uncovered this to be problem reported by others with the 35 S. I also found that this was not a reported problem with older HP scientific calculators, which has also been my experience with many older models.

The first one died after 2 years and 1 month (one month past the HP warranty). After a number of years of disappointing the almost rabid fans of the HP-15C and the HP-41 calculators, it seems as though HP may either be listening to the fans or at least coming to their senses. The only hope of that would be a remanufacture of that classic.

So far the 15C LE keyboard has been very dependable. But if button pushes do not register, it isn't what it is. The 35s does it all. It is a totally different kind of display from this cheap sorry display they put on the HP-35S.

It's very similar to the HP-35s in features, internally.

The HP-30 was a basic scientific with a two line display, algebraic entry, and no programmability. This calculator does what I need.

The HP-35s is much more than a simple retro look back at the past triumphs of Hewlett-Packard.

Bought it again after this, and the package arrived broken or cut open and some of the keys did not function at all. This is not how snap-acting buttons are supposed to work: if it snaps, it should register. After a couple of hours with a borrowed HP-41C, I saw why the HPs were better tools.I mentally kicked myself for not listening when friends told me to get an HP-67, then the HP-41C. It is hard to find RPN HP calculators any more for any reasonable price, so this is why I continue to buy it.
